DAY 19 - 2016 WEIGHT LOSS AND BLOOD GLUCOSE CHALLENGE

Christmas Eve 2015
Today is Day 19.

Weight goal - 150.4 or lower
Actual weight - 147.4

Blood glucose goal - 89 or lower
Actual blood glucose - 80

Today is a Feast Day!

For me, that means a ketogenic diet - high fat, moderate protein and very low carb. Each day, I will weigh in, check my fasting blood glucose, find out if I will feast or fast that day, update my chart and post it here on the big blog. I'm posting it to motivate myself not to give up, and if I think that anyone is looking at this, it will help to keep me accountable.

Yesterday, I had a cup of coffee with Stevia, a cup of chai with Stevia, a cup of beef broth with sea salt and a large glass of limeade made with water, ReaLime juice and Stevia.

I hit a new low for my weight, which is always nice!

18 DAYS DOWN.  73 DAYS TO GO.

15 FEAST DAYS AND 4 FAST DAYS.

6.6 POUNDS GONE.  11.4 POUNDS TO GO.

37% OF THE WAY TO MY GOAL AFTER ONLY 21% OF THE DAYS!

AVERAGE WEIGHT SO FAR - 149.7     AVERAGE BLOOD GLUCOSE SO FAR - 88

I made a few charts to track my progress.  The orange lines are my goals. The blue lines are my actual results.  The last chart is a little heat map to show at a glance how often I actually have to fast to achieve the results I am after.

This is a personal challenge just for me, but if anyone reading would like to join me, please talk to your doctor and make sure that it will not conflict with your current medical condition or medications.  If you are taking the challenge, please be sure to let me know how you are doing!  Thanks for reading!

  1. What brand of broth are you using, or did you make it yourself?

I did try to follow along with you for one day but couldn't make it through! I was too hungry... I've been able to do fat fasts occasionally but I guess I am too wimpy for this. I'm rooting for you though, your success so far is just amazing.

I did see your comment on the other post about not doing things half-cocked when you have diabetes. I am not on insulin or anything that would cause a hypo by not eating. So no worries, I didn't hurt myself by giving it a go. :-)

    1. Hi, Daytona! I'm glad you saw my disclaimer. I was worried about you! :)

I sometimes make my own beef or poultry bone broth, and sometimes I buy Swanson's MSG-free at the store. I like mine better, but sometimes I get lazy or have no bones!

Speaking of fat fasts, have you seen the Fat Fast Cookbook that I co-authored? You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Fast-Cookbook-Recipes-Weight-ebook/dp/B00BGGBE20/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453242750&sr=8-1&keywords=fat+fast+cookbook+by+dana+carpenter

    2. In case that web address is broken, just go to Amazon.com and put "fat fast cookbook" in the search.

    3. Neat, I didn't realize you co-authored that book! :-) I love it and even bought a few copies for family.
