MAY 12, 2009 - "HEALTH MAGAZINE" HEALTH? REALLY?

I received a magazine (unsolicited) in the mail. It is called Health. It had an interesting little introduction on the first page:

"In the midst of all the economic woes we are dealing with, extra fat around your middle might not seem like such a big problem. But 65 million American women are overweight or obese right now, and a new study predicts that in 40 years all adults in the United States will be overweight or obese.

"This is scary stuff, because we've put all the research together and found that fat is our greatest health enemy. It increases your risk for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, infertility, asthma, problem pregnancies, bad sex, unemployment... yikes! Bottom line? Being overweight can lower your life expectancy by as many as 20 years."

This little article went on to say that, thank goodness, they have all the answers you need. The whole magazine is filled with "advice" about low fat, low cholesterol, high carb diets, and "don't stop till you drop" exercise, no doubt to "work off" all those carbs you've been eating!

With all the research out there about the health benefits of low carb eating, how can this nonsense go on? How many more years will go by, and how many more people will die before the medical community realizes that not only will a low fat high carb diet not stop the diseases of obesity, it is the very thing that is causing them?
